Notes For English 1

Plot: What happens in a story from beginning to end.

Parts of the Plot: Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution (Denoument)

Exposition: Background information on the characters and their lives. This is also where we get the problem of the story.

Rising Action: Events that move the story along

Climax: Turning point of the story; where the story changes

Falling Action: the story begins winding down towards the end.

Resolution (Denoument): The problem of the story gets resolved; THE END

Protagonist: Main character; person with the problem to solve

Antagonist: Person who stands in the protagonist's way; tries to stop the protagonist from succeeding.
